The B-Retina Festival was born as a tribute to the neighborhood cinemas that disappeared both in the city of Cornellà (10 – no more and no less!), and throughout the periphery of the city of Barcelona since 2000.
It was created with the aim of creating a community of spectators in front of a screen, like a social event of sorts. And since one of the objectives was to “compete” against the blockbusters of today’s commercial cinemas and multiplexes, its organizers decided to dedicate it to a genre that, although apparently a minority, was beginning to claim its space among fans and onlookers.
Fans and professional creators of B Series cinema see their possibilities of enjoying this type of cinema reduced, being forced to attend screening rooms, thematic or specialized festivals and exhibitions to enjoy their passion. For this reason and after eight editions, the Festival B-Retina has become a refference as platform of promotion for a type of cinema with little visibility in the Spanish territory. This way,We have carved a niche for ourselves in the hearts of an audience who shuns the clichés of A-Series cinema, who want to enjoy the big screen and share their passion with other fans of a genre that is experiencing its second golden age.
Since 2015, the year in which the first edition was held, the number of spectators has not stopped rising until present times, which shows that B-Retina is a consolidated festival both in the city of Barcelona and in Spanish territory, as one of the headliners within the genre and the only festival specialized in B Series cinema in Catalonia.
In 2021, a double SOLD OUT is achieved thanks to our large loyal audience, as well as other newcomers who enjoy it for the first time. In 2022, B-Retina grows even more, extending its duration to 6 days and with an online version on the FILMIN platform that lasted for 18 days, reaching almost 1,000 live viewers and more than 3,400 viewers in its digital/on demmand version.
In addition to these juicy figures, B-Retina takes pride in being a member of TAC (Terror Arreu de Catalunya), an organization in which it participates (among many other activities) in its horror short film competition with Catalan productions, where the “TAC Awards” are presented as part of the Cardoterror Film Festival program. It is also a member of Catalunya Film Festivals and the Fugaz-Spanish Short Film Awards.
As if that weren’t enough, although the main activity revolves around the festival, B-Retina collaborates with other friendly film festivals, such as Fantboi in Sant Boi and the acclaimed Cutrecon Festival in Madrid.
Additionally, B-Retina organizes various activities throughout the year related to the audiovisual world, such as participation in the Saló del Cinema i de les Sèries or organizing different talks, masterclasses, or screenings in schools or within the programming of the Cornellà Library Network alongside the Diputació de Barcelona.
